Hello everybody,

I found one web site that says:

"The robots.txt file should be created in Unix line ender mode! Most good text editors will have a Unix mode or your FTP client *should* do the conversion for you. Do not attempt to use an HTML editor that does not specifically have a text mode to create a robots.txt file."

This is uri: [searchengineworld.com...]

Does this mean that I can't use Windows Notepad, or can I?

Thanks.

your FTP client *should* do the conversion for you

Just make sure you upload the file as ASCII (not binary)

Doctor,

I have not seen anywhere on my FTP client with the option to upload as ascii or binary.

How should I do this?

Apologies for the tardy reply:

There should be an option for this in your FTP client. Most have, as options, ASCII, binary or default. Default checks the file extension and uses ASCII or binary accordingly. Therefore, in most FTP clients, the usual situation is that txt files are uploaded as ASCII. But it's best to check, just in case.

If you haven't found your options yet, post the name of your FTP client, and I'm sure someone wil be able to tell you where to find them.
