I am reading an article in the .Net mag about mobile websites and how it is going to be the best thing since sliced bread.

Anyone here have any experience in producing sites that are mobile and any tips on the easiest way to do it?

Thanks Greg

It depends on your personal situation. My analytics show that only 5% of my visitors are mobile users. Is it a good use of my time & energy to create a site designed especially for mobile users when only 5% of my visitors are mobile users?

I would look at the size of mobile users on your website. Then I would test drive your site using Iphone screen resolution (which I am guessing is the most common).

Personally, I am not creating sites just for my mobile users. I am creating a /mobile/ subdirectory on some of my sites. This mobile folder will better serve the mobile user but it also opens up duplicate content issues that I need to deal with.

Hello goodrio

Thanks for your comments.

I take the view that mobile users are not particularly interested in surfing for website designers while on the move, so my website is not im portant in this question. On the other hand my clients are varied and some of them my like to have a mobile version of their website, but i will have to convince them it is to their benifit and they will have to pay for it.

It is a bit of a catch 22, I do not have the time to research each clients possible need for a mobile site and I cannot sell the idea without the research.

I always take .Net mags stats with a pinch of salt, they do promote some off the wall websites I have never heard of and nore has anyone I ask. So when they say a mobile website is a must I am not so sure.

I am very new on this forum I seem to have posted in the wrong area do you think it will be OK to repeat it in a better position?

My analytics show that only 5% of my visitors are mobile users.

Is that using iPhone level of screen resolution or connecting through the mobile phone network? The latter would include a lot of full size laptops with modems.
