Multiples Sitemap in Robots.txt

Can I insert a second differently named sitemap.xml in robots.txt?

Hello everybody!

I've got a couple of questions.

Can I have 2 sitemaps for a website?
E.g: 1) sitemap.xml
2) sitemap2.xml

If possible, then I would place the second sitemap url in the robots.txt so that the spiders could crawl it.

Is that possible?

Ps: Small story, I want to create geo content for google search so that they can index my kml files, and the kml files must be placed in a sitemap. Since I cannot insert it (automatically) in my existing sitemap, and I don't wish to modify the latter manually, I am looking forward to create a second sitemap. :)

You certainly can....
in the same way you would for the original:
Sitemap: /sitemap.xml
Sitemap: /sitemap2.xml

Yes, you can create as many sitemaps as you want and submit to Google
