Hello mace
Welcome to WebmasterWorld

Its really worth trying Pay per click adverstising. You should start of with google adwords and see if it works for you.

try by just small budget and later you may increase it if it converts for you into good bussiness

IMO its better to get natural seo results than paid PPC traffic.

Do research, be cautious and you'll be fine.

Personally, I would start with Yahoo Search Marketing (AKA Overture). In my opinion it is an easier interface to deal with and learn, especially for a beginner. Depending solely on organic results is risky, especially when you see updates like "Bourbon." But PPC has its risks as well. Just do your research. Look around this forum and a few others and learn the basics.

see yahoo is working as a commercial and it is also making money out of it .bht it is worth to rely on addword.

I like the smaller search engines to start with rather than Google, because you can get top bid for less and see how it goes, and hone in on your keywords that way. Google is very expensive for some of the top words. Try sites like kaspie.com, kanoodle.com and findwhat.com first, just my two cents.

Adwords is going to be your best bet.. They have geotargeting that will allow you to target your northwest sales area for more generic furniture terms while paying less than the national rates. I would also recommend Overture, but with them you'll have to rely on consumers using city/state names in their queries which is going to bring you much less traffic.. If you sell national you may also want to check out the various shopping engines.. I would recommend staying away from the smaller engines for now...

Don't use Kanoodle or Findwhat. Read the rest of the threads in this forum and you'll understand why.

Well well. (BTW hi guys - first post to a v.useful forum). I just signed up for Kanoodle and got quite a surprise - over 1200 hits in less than 1 hour but no sales from those hits. Now thats quite a jump in traffic at non-peak time and makes me VERY suspicious. Are they running a scam or what?

Wish I'd read this forum first ...

Sorry to hear that boho. Sometimes when you jump into things head first you get a bump for your troubles.

Ive tried kanoodle yet again with their 10 dollar trial, and where as I did not get one sign up, it seems people did navigate the site. Perhaps a lot of people here blame this company for their inability to advertise with it correctly? Or perhaps it just doesnt perform as well as the other PPC

Its still around and so im sure it is successful for lots of people, all of whom simply do not have enough time to come on forums and talk about it.

Fortunately it only cost me a few quid, and I'm prepared to accept I don't know how to advertise with anyone - god knows I'm no expert (yet). What I found deeply suspicious though was 1200 hits in less than an hour - most from an engine called abcsearch.com. Who? If I thought I could trust these guys I'd be quite happy to use the keyword stats from those hits and go forward, but unfortunately I don't - unless someone can tell me they've had a positive experience with them?

Does PPC work? This is the same question as: do newspaper ads work? does TV work? do billboards work?
There is no straight answer. One of my friends is spending around $1,400.00 a month on PPC and is making over $1 million per year. You'll just never know what works until you've tried.
