Wasn't Terra Lycos shopping around for a buyer for Hotbot & Lycos? hm, I know hotbot was potentiall on the chopping block..still, the traffic from Lycos is so little these days, I wonder how much revenue is really left in it?
Between XML CPC inclusion, and the CPC ads at the top, and the PFI pages, where do they have room to stick more adverts? My guess is near the top, else the ads wouldn't be worth much...strange, though - it seems this would only drive more surfer's away from Lycos, instead of towards them which should be their end goal. They are a portal, after all.
Honestly, I see this as one vulture flying low to scoop on something, just as it's becomming roadkill ;)
LookSmart will provide its new high-relevance, high-value commercial search product to Lycos beginning late in the third quarter of 2003. LookSmart will become the primary provider of general Web search results for a large number of high-value commercial terms. In addition, Lycos will have the option to resell LookSmart's LookListings(TM) to thousands of Lycos InSite(TM) customers

I wonder how that is supposed to work...
LookSmart will become the primary provider of general Web search results for a large number of high- value commercial termsmy emphasis
Plus LycosInsite, which up to now was reselling ATW PFI
will have the option to resell LookSmart's LookListings(TM) to thousands of Lycos InSite(TM) customers.
Hope that makes sense, read the sales literature on their site to see which verticals they targeted for the price hike.
Lycos should start showing LS listings in Sept.. At first they'll be supplying results for about 50,000 search phrases and that should expand over time to 200,000 search phrases. Overture listings will be displayed first followed by L$ listings and then ATW backfill (similar to the MSN setup)..
