Modifying, not replacing, author sheets

I want to create a style sheet for Opera to use to augment a particular site. I don't want to completely replace their CSS, just override one or two of their attributes.

I'm sure it can be done, but I'm missing something somewhere.

File -> Preferences -> Page Style.

you can specify which stylesheet to use and use the Configure Modes button to determine which styles to apply in each mode.

If the site carries a "CSS Signature" you can change any part of the layout. Full details here:

I'm familiar with that, but I'm not sure it will handle my situation. To expound on my predicament, I have a site I frequent that in Opera has problems similar to the Travelocity issue [webmasterworld.com]. I just need to change one attribute on one div to correct the problem. It seems that the preferences route would require me to recreate a substantial part of the site's style sheet--not out of the question, but not as elegant a solution as I had hoped. :)

I've never heard of that before; I will look into it. Unfortunately, I don't think the site in question is so enabled.

You should be able to create a stylesheet with just the attribute you need to change in it. StickyMail me the site if you like and I'll have a go.

Ah, I found out how to "combine" the site's and my style sheets via preferneces. This from 30 Days to Becoming an Opera7 Lover [tntluoma.com]:

“You can also add user styles to the authors rather than replace them IF you change your preferences > page style > configure modes... settings so that author mode ALSO has ‘My Style Sheet’ set. That way you can layer CSS on top of the authors, rather than the default of replacing it...”

That's probably what you were trying to tell me in your previous post. I was just dense enough I needed it spelled out for me. ;) And thanks for the offer. I know how to fix the display problem--I just wasn't clear on how to combine my CSS with theirs.

Yes, but that will affect other sites using the same attribute.

Yup - fraid so.

Be as specific as you can with the CSS selector to avoid affecting other sites.
Ultimately once you have identified the fix you should just contact the site author and suggest he makes the change himself.

Yes, I figured that would affect every other site as well, but this particular site has distinctive IDs on its DIVs, so I don't think that will be an issue.

I did try to contact them. They had no idea what I was talking about, and didn't know how I could contact someone who would. And it's the "Travelocity" of its category!
