Importing from Outlook?

I am trying to set up Opera 7.51 M2 email, and would like to import my contacts form Outlook. Spent a good bit of time with no luck. I even downloaded a program called Dawn that was recommended in Opera help, but it crashed this XP machine twice.

Try saving your contacts from Outlook as a .csv file. (I think there's an option to export to CSV - I don't use Outlook, and it's sometimes SERIOUSLY skewed from OE.) Then see if you can import the .csv file into Opera. (I'm also not an Opera user except for keeping the freebie alive so I can test in it....)

CSV works even too and from Yahoo, so maybe it will give you an option....

I had the .csv file exported to my desktop, but couldn't get it converted to the file type needed for Opera.

Hm. Okay. Let me see what I can tweak on my own Opera stuff. Might not get back to you until tomorrow; someone else may help before then....

Um. Hrm. Urr..... hummmmm.....

That took almost no time at all.... I have the "old" version of Opera, and OE. I accessed Opera Mail, told it to import my Outlook Express mail (from a menu which did NOT include Outlook), and it did so. Period. Within the few minutes since my previous post.

So go find OE, start it up, import your Outlook message store, then start Opera Mail, and import the OE messages....

Outlook Express is a different deal than Outlook according to the Opera help files. I have Outlook.

Exported contacts from Outlook to desktop in a .csv file type. I then imported into Outlook Express. When I closed all that and tried to import into Opera everything went except contacts. The account settings and email went, but not the contacts. I may have to solve this on a Opera forum.

I found the solution on the Opera Community Forum and now I'm happy. [hallvord.com...] has an address conversion utility that works. I converted Outlook contacts to .csv and the online utility did the job.
