Vivaldi 1.0: Not for everybody, just you [vivaldi.net]

Here it is. After more than a year of public development, we're honored to share Vivaldi 1.0 with you today. You're the reason we've made it this far.

I've enjoyed my year using Vivaldi in beta. It has completely replaced my Opera 12.x and I use it daily. Worth checking out!

I've been using it daily, too, and it's been working just fine, apart from a few minor issues, as you'd expect for a browser that wasn't quite ready. Now that it is, i'm hoping those issues have been ironed out. I'm sure they have. I just took the latest update, today, taking me from RC1 to the latest stable version.

I like the tab stacking which can make it much faster to find a reference document, and I find it especially useful when carrying out research.

I rarely jump on a new product, so this kind of commentary is very helpful.

If you were a fan of the old Opera, up to version 12.x, then you're going to be interested in this. It's run by all the old Opera people. Their approach to the browser is the same; It's just not based on the Presto engine, but rather Chromium skinned by JavaScript.

So far I'm liking it. It's working with all my chrome plugins, and imported all my bookmarks/passwords without a hitch. It reminds me quite a bit of the Opera I grew to love before they ruined it.

They certainly didn't built it for me.

I tried all their predecessors and always ran into some showstopper that made me abandon it after only a couple of days usage.

FYI, if I'm not mistaken the tab stacking people fawn over is also available as a firefox plugin.

Yes, but Firefox add-ons are all vulnerable now [webmasterworld.com...] so there's something to be said for having this built into the browser.

What are the system requirements, tech specs, etc?

I'm amazed that I haven't seen them published anywhere.

It certainly didn't work very well on my Acer WIN10 tablet. Whilst a page would load and render ok I was unable to scroll nor go to any links and as for uninstalling it was a nightmare. It completely froze my machine and I honestly thought it had completely broken it when it wouldn't switched back on, fortunately after about 10 minutes or so it did come back to life, I shall not be trying that again in a hurry.
