Opera freezes way too much

I love Opera, but it freezes way too much on me. Probably about 5 times a session, and it is getting on my nerves. I have the latest version, so I know that is not the problem, and I have 1GB of RAM, so I know it is not a hardware/resource problem. Has anyone else experienced this with Opera? Does anyone know what I can do to stop it from crashing all the time?

I used to have that kind of trouble (well, once or twice a session) on earlier versions of Windows, but since I'm on XP I can let it roll on and on, twist the histories of multiple tabs into virutual pretzels, and still have no trouble.

Are you on XP?

v 7.54 here. Nary a problem. Running it on all my machines. Laptop only has 384MB RAM. Still works fine.

Yep, on my laptop that is about 5 months old. I don't understand why it is giving me so much trouble.

Is Opera freezing, and not just quitting? You need to quit manually? One of the things I've appreciated about Opera is that when it does get into trouble, it shuts down so politely and often can re-open right to the same spot.

However, I don't know what kinds of issues cause the problems - it's not the web pages themslves, that much is clear.

Hi, I am a long time user of Opera (since 5.10) but am uncertain of the exact context of this problem. There are two distinct types of Opera issues: bugs, limitations, or incorrect use of Opera which I illustrate with the fact that are situations (screen capture, for instance) where Opera will lock (or do nothing) if you use F11 but excecute perfectly if you you use View "full screen" from the Menu Bar.

On the other, more delicate and controversial side of the coin, there is little doubt that on occasion Windows will hassle Opera in subtle and some not so subtle ways. For instance, I use the hide taskbar option in XP and somedays it will work, and some days not --- one of the factors being whether or not Opera has more than one page open. IF I close all pages except current, the task bar pops up (usually).

I hope that we do not have to pretend here or side step the fact that Opera is not MS's favourite program and that there are documented cases of "interference". This situation, fortunately, has decreased dramatically, and I am by no means claiming perfection in Opera's operations. The best solution to many of these problems is simply to write to Opera.

Any "locking issue" has to be discussed in specifics. It has been an occasional problem on both 98SE to XP but never a routine matter.

i used to have the same problem.

(1)are you using the latest version
(2)is your machine running slow in general?
(3)when you installed it, did you have any older version already running?

if the answer to 1 is no. get the latest version. no less than 7.5

if the answer is 2 is yes, you may have a virus or you may need more RAM.

if the answer to 3 is yes, uninstall your old copy of opera (saving your emails, contacts and bookmarks of course) then reinstall a newer version.
