How to get a 800x600 window on larger resolution screen

Hi,

I usually work on 1024x728px screen resolution. Nonetheless, all my project are fluid website made to fit a 800x600px screen. blah blah...

Let me just drop the question :)
Is there a way to fix the size of Firefox or Opera's window so that it has the size of a "800x600" on a large screen resolution?

The method I am currently using is this :
1/ Change screen resolution to 800x600
2/ Firefox window to full size
3/ Change screen resolution to 1024x728
4/ Reduce Firefox window size

And normally I get the exact size of a "800x600" window and can work on a 1024x728px screen resolution (much easier)...

You need to look for "Screen Size Tester".

Hi,

For firefox you can get the Web Developers extension. This lets you set values to resize the browser to. So with a click of the button you can resize the browser.

Check the Mozilla website for the extension.

Not sure about Opera.

Condo12 - I went to Mozilla website looking for extensions but it is always asking me to update Firefox. Well, the thing is that I do not want to update. Anyway I could get the extension without updating?

I was refering to an online version. All it does is just pops up a new window (using JS) with the size you specify. Works like a charm.

You can configure Opera to display window size, and then size it accordingly. Under Tools > Preferences > Advanced > Browsing, check the "Show window size" box. (That's on 8.50; I think it's similar on earlier versions.)

I've found that the dimensions are accurate, but beware that the height includes the toolbars. (i.e., the dimensions are of the viewport.) So you may need to copy the screen image into Paint, or similar, to check the dimensions, and then adjust for the toolbars.

You won't need a full extension for this - you can do it with a simple bookmarklet. Here's the script:

javascript:void(window.resizeTo(800,600))

To add the bookmark, create a link with the above in the href, then view the page and drag the link to your bookmarks. Select the bookmarked link and your screen will resize to 800x600.

Why don't you want to update?

Hey hey :) I knew that this will come out!
I know I should update but I am happy with the version 1.0.2
It is fast loading, there are no unecessary code/features and does not crash. I know that the updates are safer and never crash or few times (not as much as the beta version!).

Let's say that I am not in a hurry and that I tend to keep my old browser with the assumption - I may be wrong - that if my HTML/webpage is clean in an old version and it is clean in all updates released after* - which not always the case the other way round?

* At least for FF & Mozilla ;)

Well you're going to get hacked by the security holes they repaired in later versions. Or suffer from bugs they fixed in later versions. Or miss out on new features they put in with later versions. It's madness not to upgrade!

What will you do when version 1.5 Final is released soon? :)

If you install the w3-dev menu for Opera, it does have an option to change the size of the page to many different resolutions.

Web Developer toolbar for Firefox inclides a resize option of 800x600 which is quicker then resizing your resolution or messing with code to resize your window via JS.

I use a program called Sizer, which adds a right-click menu to ALL programs that show a top bar in Windows. It allows very easy changing of the screen size to a variety of common settings, such as 800 x 600. What's more, you can input your own sizes. So you can have one to place a window exactly half the size of the screen, and another to fill the remaining half. Great for viewing two windows, aligned perfectly, at once!

Plus, when you drag a window in, it displays the exact size.
