Proper encoding in Opera

Text is in Russian?

Kind of humorous actually...I downloaded and installed the latest version of Opera (7.52) on another one of my computers and found that any web page that does not have a font family declaration displays the text as what appears to be Russian.

Can anyone tell me what the default encode type should be set to in Opera? None of the settings I tried changed anything. View>>Encoding>>? It installed set to "automatic selection".

Have you tried setting it to your native language and see if that makes a difference?

Also, check the "Encode to assume for pages lacking specification" in Preferences/Languages. If you use the English, then your default encoding should be ISO-8859-1 (or Windows-1252).

Not Opera at all. Just so happens I got nailed by a virus at the time of the installation of Opera. Other programs are rendering giberish for text now as well. All is good though because that is my experimental system so I am not losing anything if I decide to reformat.
