Opera 5.1 Mouse gestures

Anyone notice Opera 5.1 came with mouse gestures? They control navigation:
They are activated by right clicking and then moving while holding:

down and release - open new window.
down and release over link - open link in new window
down then right (L)- close window.
Max or restore window : up then right
load link in background : down slightly, up slightly over link.
minimize window : down then left
duplicate window : up down.

back button : hold right, click left.
forward : hold left, click right

zoom window up or down : hold control, roll whell.
slow panning : click wheel, now drag.

Personally; I could have done without it, but users seem to be nuts over them.

There are several I will never use but;

The right button down move left for back, and the right button down move right for forward is very cool. I keep catching myself in other applications trying to turn pages.

About the only one I use is the down right page closer. I am a chronic incurable "shift-control-clicker" and click almost everything into new windows.

The only one i've found myself using is the up-down over a link to open the page in a new background window - handy.

I love that one too, but don't get to use to that one... It is undocumented and is probably going to be removed. (Have heard from a reliable source that it is removed in internal builds). The same one now opens the link in the foreground. I'm kinda bummed about it.

I do it that way because I'm usually on a 56k modem, so I can open a couple of links in the background and leave them to load while I carry on reading.

I wonder why they would take it out?

Its funny in a way that mozilla is still plodding along trying to get its core features right while Opera is allready way ahead trying to break new ground in browser features.

How long before netscape/AOL/etc give up and just buy out Opera :)

It's a great feature. So much so that I went hunting to find a similar app to implement for the whole system. The "mouse milage" reduced by at least 70%. Try it out at [sensiva.com...]

I've neglected the mouse gestures in favor of learning the keyboard shortcuts better (I'm now addicted to Ctrl+Shift+Click). Also, more and more of my Opera usage appears to be occurring on my laptop, so I didn't want to get dependant on it and not be able to use it there.

I thought a large portion of Opera's appeal was in the many keyboard shortcuts. It seems they may be trying to please too many people at once. But if Clinton can do it, I guess Opera can too. :)

The keyboard shortcuts are good (whoever thought that alt and left arrow is a shortcut!), but I have to say I do some of my surfing one handed so its nice to have the gestures too.
