Opera grabs another sector of hand helds

Wow, Opera is fastly becoming the default choice for a hand held browser. From phones to palm top computers, Opera is carving out a major segment of the hand held market. You can now add all the major players to the Opera camp:

Symbian and Opera Software today announced an agreement to include Opera as the default browser in Symbian's reference designs for Communicator devices. Symbian is an operating system for handheld devices. It was setup by Ericsson, Motorola, Nokia, Panasonic and Psion.

The first device to use Symbian will be the Nokia 9210 Communicator. The version of Opera used is near identicle to the full blown Opera 5 for windows.

I think it can only be a matter of time before Opera for CE comes out. With agreements on the books with IBM, AMD, and Psion, Opera is fastly becoming the hand held browser leader and may overtake Microsoft yet this year.

They also released the first official beta of Opera for the Mac today. Mac lovers should note this is what Opera calls <i>beta</i> (which is on par with other companies call alpha). This release also supports computers running MacOS X in the Classic mode.
