F4 (open the hotlist) and click on the Contacts tab. You can 'import' contacts from the File->Import menu.

More stable than any previous Opera build on any platform (and I'm picky about that stuff). It's higher quality than any Opera release ever. I feel it is 'final' quality. And knowing there is a "final" version yet to come, just makes it all that much more sweet.

It's a lot prettier than the default configuration of the Opera 5.x series. The buttons were attractive but subtle, the forground skin likewise.
The first thing I did was surf all the sites I knew I had problems viewing in 5.12, and I was pleasantly surprised. Even www.graysonline.com.au (famous for lazy techs, rude reps and spamming) rendered okay.
The next thing is to try and view some asian sites to test unicode support. No problems there - they all rendered without a problem.
Surfing seems to be a little faster. Opera claims that 6.0 is 20 - 25% faster than 5.12. I'm not able measure it, but it does seem a little more brisk. The incidence of a page "hanging" before it's fully loaded seems to be less also (or maybe my ISP isn't playing up for a change).
Onto features, the personal toolbar is exceptionally handy. Another feature that is great is the "Quick Preferences". Basically, commonly changed prefs such as enabling JavaScript or cookies are accessable from one keypress. There's a similar menu that allows you to erase all cookies, history, cache etc. with a few clicks.
Email support still isn't quite as good as I'd like. My biggest gripe is the notification - or lack of it. It doesn't create a little mail icon in the taskbar. It doesn't seem to want to play sounds (maybe Opera doesn't support .wav format?). And popping up a window or notification could get annoying if you're in the middle of something. Accessing multiple accounts gets tiresome, though I think it's possible to have all your mail accounts displayed in one pane. I just haven't figured it out yet.
The instant messenger feature works fine... but doesn't store any messages. Ah well, I guess I'll have to stick to the bloated ICQ program.
Opera 6 probably has more features that I haven't discovered yet. Overall, in the few hours I've been using it, I'm very happy to have downloaded it, and it has replaced 5.12 completely. Don't let the Beta nomenclature fool you - it's already better than 5.12.

I can't click a mailto link and get eudora to come up. I am getting a windows error telling me to go to mycomputer and to fix the problem.
Is this my install?

As a laptop dial up user, IE can store whatever bookmarked pages you like off line, so even if you are off line you can access them. This is part of the synchronise feature which also means you can in one click up date the latest versions of all your bookmarks.
This is a really important feature to me.
Great to see that Opera is showing support for RSS in it's panels. Hopefully the next version will mean you can have any RSS file you want rather than just two predefined Moreover RSS feeds. It's a but ugly right now, (eg the moreover graphic is "stretched" at least on my browser, and i cant see how to make the fonts smaller for the panel) but good to see it being experimented with.
Im pretty close to being converted from IE, at least to have it as a secondary browser. But that off line capability is the bugbear.

Hmmm. No clue there - works good here. I use that feature often to get 'another look' at a site too.
worst bugs found thus far:
- printing error when trying to print in reduced ratios/percentages. (if you select 80% it comes out like 20% or something ...) There are a couple other known problems with printing and win 2k/nt. (I guess you can only get at your printer prefs one time and then must restart Opera).
- ftp crash. First and only known reproducible crash. Surfing certain types of ftp:// servers (war), can cause a crash when switching ftp directories.

I'm not sure I understand that chiyo. You can put any page in there you want. You can do up to 20 custom panels on the Hotlist.
If you click on Add panel, it takes you to a customize Opera page, from there you can choose several pre-defined channels, of which two are RSS based - Moreover channels. I thought that maybe Opera was parsing RSS XML feeds automatically, but I see that they are parsing it on their own server and you access an opera URL with the parsed content. So, no it dosent seem Opera is auto parsing XML RSS files at this stage, but do have a facility where they can parse files on their server. At the moment you cant choose any RSS feed.
If anybody is interested, Tara's implemntation of the RSS Monkey script is great. Another highly recommeded one is at

but you are still dependent on a remote site for parsing. It has good customization features too. RSSMonkey is a free script you can use on your own site if you are not commercial.
Totally, unconditionally - ignore that useless link "get panels" - it's dumb.
Instead:
- open a page you want to put on a panel. (any old web page will do)
- open the hotlist (f4)
- right click on any of the tabs (email, bookmarks, contacts)
- select "add panel".
You'll get a prompt for a title and a url. The title will be used for the new
tab, and the url will default to the current focused page.
presto - instant web page panel. You can do that for up to 20 pages!

Keeps crashing on my system with 'system resources getting low' warning.
Don't have this problem with latest Mozilla - damn, I fancied changing back to Opera but 'no can do':(
however, i've just collapsed it, can't get in at all, will need to completely delete; both uninstall and hunt down all the .dll files and try it again.
(edit: sorted it, just a simple reinstall, kept email acc's, though not bookmarks).

For those running out of resources on win9x systems, try this:
1. Go to preferences->History and cache.
2. Uncheck / disable automatic RAM cache
3. Set both Cache documents and Cache images to 10000 KB and make sure they're checked.
If you still run into problems, try lowering the "Cache images" value to 8000, then 5000 if problem persists.
Next version should solve this though.
