Opera 6.01 Windows final out now

Opera 6.01 [searchengineworld.com] was released today. A major bug fix and maint release from 6.00. It's without reservation I say it's the best code Opera has ever put out. Solid, bug free, stable.

Wich one would you recoment the java version or not?

If you have netscape installed or a previous version of Opera with java, you shouldn't need the java version (it will use netscapes). Otherwise, you'll run into a few sites here and there (still rare) that need java.

Any Netscape, including that horrid 4.7 I keep with JS disabled as the ultimate test? And will it make a difference if I've got JS disabled in Netscape?

i've got Opera without, and can see someone's hidden code with it - or it may be confused layers or CSS. They'd be shocked, I should write and tell them.

You've got your Java Script (browser side "scripting language") and you've got your Java - two totally different languages. Java script does not need a Java run time libraray/executable installed to execute (it's executed by the browser itself). Java usually downloads a compiled program and runs it through the Jave run time library (that's what the 10meg vs 3meg is).

Confusing isn't it?...

Because i've had it since Saturday morning :-) There's also been a very long public beta testing period [searchengineworld.com]. There's only been a couple of minor regressions since about build 1010 (6.00) in early Dec. So ya, it is the most stable that's been around. I've not unintentionally crashed it in several builds with daily usages.

Bascially, any stability problems are found within 20-30 mins of a public release. The only stability problem I've heard of has to do with a combination of a specific HP printer driver with Win2k (don't know the details).

I'm not sure whether it's Opera or my system. Could anyone please check the following behaviour?

go to auctions.playboy.com, advanced search, enter 'anderson' as keyword (or anything else that is likely to produce results) and hit 'Search'. No items found because Opera transmitts these values '&ReservePrice=on&SaleType=on' instead of '&ReservePrice=&SaleType='. Works fine in any other browser.

go to ebay.com, go to 'Smart Search', enter 'anderson' as search title, check the box 'search title and description', click 'Search'. No items found, Opera crashes.

Is it my system, Opera, the sites?

I emailed the webmaster several times and outlined some of the major mistakes, his only answer was: the page works in IE and Netsacpe, NOBODY uses Opera

Go check Statmarket. Opera is set to over take Netscape in Europe. It's either happened already or about to happen. That's even considering Stat Markets history...

I went digging and couldn't come up with a direct link. Best I can do at this point is the Opera 6.01 press release which quotes
