ALT Tags in Opera & Netscape

Does anyone know why alt tags are not always displayed in opera, I have a site with alt tags on all images that are displayed in ie but not opera, but I have seen alt tags on other sites in opera!! Also does Netscape show alt tags or not? Thanks.

Opera has a setting that allows you to choose whether or not you want the alt tags displayed. What you're probably seeing on some sites in Opera is the title tag instead. This can be used in addition to the alt tag.

There have been some known bugs with NN and Alt Tags. One of them has to do when surfers are browsing with their images turned off. If you do not have image size specified, the user will not see the alt tags, bummer!

I've been testing NN6.2 and it appears that it is not showing alt tags. It does show the a title tag which NN4+ did not.

I think they may have some bugs to work out.

Also there is a platform issue too.

Mac users see no alt tag content when the pic is loaded in browser.

Per the W3C html recommendation : Alt tags are "alternate" text to be displayed by nongraphical user agents. Turn off graphics to view them in Opera. (press g twice). eg: internet explorer is incorrect and nonstandard in it's alt tag behavior.

If you want popups in Opera, use the "title" attribute.

To be honest, I'd rather not see them myself, unless the image doesn't load... but I read that Google loves them so I tend to bang them in all over the place!!!
