opera - this is nasty!

yesterday my little peaceful opera world was suddenly
troubled when i took a look at a new menu page:
it uses
a:hover {text-decoration:none; font-weight: bold;}
where otherwise the link texts are not bold
the problem is that opera just displays the
bold text up to the length of the actual non-bold text
when hovering over it with the mouse.
it looks awful! :(
is there a work around?

Which version are you testing in?

If you do this it works:

a {
display: block;
text-decoration: none;
}
a:hover {
font-weight: bold;
}

Note that without text-decoration: none; for the a element you'll get an ugly overline :(

a {display:block; text-decoration:none}
a:hover {display:block; text-decoration:none; font-weight:bold;}

Just as a little tip ..

You don't need to re-declare display:block; text-decoration:none; for a:hover since you already have it in the global a identifier.

Saves you a couple of bytes ;)
