Non-breaking space problem in Opera 6.05

Why are they appearing as 'r'?

Hi folks,
I've just relaunched my site, and since I did this, every single non-breaking space ( ) is being rendered as the letter r!

For instance, let's say that I have:-

 1259 

In Opera 6.05, it's rendered as:-

r1259r

Does anybody know why? Thanks in advance!

Check your doctype at the top of the page. Is it messed somehow? The doctype is pointing at something odd, the web browser is supposed to figure out how to render things from whatever it points at.

If that isn't it, check the character encoding. Are you using UTF-8?

Load the page into notepad and save it again as ascii text, not unicode. It may be that you can't see extra stuff thrown in.

If all else fails, reinstall Opera.

It would be a character set issue first. (Opera doesn't look at doc type that I know of).

There are many &nbsp's on this very page...

One more thought. Check the fonts on the machine and what you specified in the CSS. Make sure the font that the page is being rendered in is not corrupt in some way. Try using the same font into wordpad or something.
