Opera 7.10 Beta

Opera 7.10 Beta was released today and is available on opera's ftp site.

Frankly I'm surprised to see another v7 beta. I'm in the process of downloading now, so I'm not sure if any of the v7 issues have been cleaned up.

BTW: As soon as I loaded the first page, I noticed some severe link underline issues. Not a very good beta.

The thing I've noticed about Opera is that the initial 4 to 5 releases of a major version are usually so buggy that it is unreliable for daily use. I won't upgrade to the 7.X series until all the bugs are fixed. From its history, I guess this will be 7.12 or so. (And if they don't get fixed, I'll just move to Mozilla, which I'm equally fond of.)

I really like this beta. It has a lot of cool new features:

1. You can edit your keyboard settings/shortcuts (Preferences ¦ Mouse and keyboard)
   
2. You can edit the mouse gestures (Preferences ¦ Mouse and keyboard)
   
3. The "Info" panel (in Hotlist - F4). Especially Security information but also page size info.
   
4. The "Notes" panel (again Hotlist). Especially the fact that it's easy to add notes (Ctrl+Shift+C) and use them in forms (CursorDown)
   
5. You can edit "fastforward.ini" and add new keywords, e.g., "Nex page" in a foreign language.
   
6. Cookie editor (Preferences ¦ Privacy ¦ Edit serer filters)
   
7. Edit Wand passwords (Preferences ¦ Security)
   
8. The new tool tips
   
9. Automatically mark messages as read after X seconds (View ¦ Mark as read)
   
10. Better keyboard support in mails (F7, F8, F9)

Well, this is what, release #8 for v7? And it's the 8th time my mouse wheel still won't work with it.

Oh well, 6.06 is working great here.

I found one reason for Opera's underlining too much:

Let's see: Opera 7 Beta 1, Beta 2, Final, 01, 02, 03, 7.1 Beta 1 and now Beta 2.

But 7.01, 7.02, and 7.03 were "only" security updates. I wouldn't expect them to fix anything but the security issue to avoid regressions.

I agree that Opera should not release "technical previews" as beta versions and a beta version as final but Opera 7.1 finally seems usable.

They'll never be able to fix all the bugs. There are just too many. :(

Anyway, regarding your mouse: Is it a Microsoft or Logitech mouse? What drivers do you use?

Apparantly, there's a registration fix for Logitec mice [logitech.de]. I haven't tried it!

By any chance do you happen to know the content of that Opera scrolling fix for synaptics touchpad users page? The link returns an error. If you could recall some of that it'd be great. I'm impressed with 7 so far (coming from 6) but having to move the mouse over to scroll is very frustrating.

@synmoo: Try the following: Edit SynTPEnh.ini. In section [Opera Browser] add the following lines:

Be carful with copy&paste. The pipe "¦" character seems to get transfered to s.th. else (broken vertical bar). So use your keyboard to get the actual pipe character.
