But I think the guys who run the company don't know their asses from their elbows about business. There's an academic, arrogant, snobbish streak at work there that they better get rid of and fast.
Opera should be distributed in two versions. A simplified bare-bones version that should be designed for the IE user who wants a change of scenery. (Getting rid of pop-ups is a good selling point.) How about Opera Explorer?
And then, bait and switch 'em on the upgrade to the full deal - mail client and all.
(But forty bucks? Come off it!)
Similar to what Adobe finally had the good sense to do with it's line of Acrobat 6 products - Acrobat Reader, Acrobat Standard and Acrobat Professional. They've even created different tiers of Reader with Document Server for Reader.
Smart move and past time.
Oh well - maybe it will be fixed by v9. I don't have a lot of faith Opera Software will make it to v9 if they keep making major business mistakes like conceding the largest growth market for browsers (pda's, mobile, smallscreen) to NetFront and Microsoft. The funny thing is that they are befuddled as to why so few are side grading to v7 (v6 is still winning here by about 10%).
side-grading...heh...
Go into mouse properties, 1 of the windows too lazy to look right now, I said this so often
checkmark both, and set the line scroll to 1 line
boxes should be
enable ms something scrolling
and
scroll in active window only
This one has a lot less of the motion sickness inducing page-redraw that earlier 7.x had. I couldn't use the first version too long without feeling ill (literally) This one seems much more refined. I'll have to use it a few more days before rendering judgment, but so far, so good.
I didn't mind the "Progressive Rendering" of 7.03, but 7.10 actually displays the text on the page before it has even read the CSS information. It is weird to see Times New Roman text with blue and purple links running across the screen for a few seconds, and then to have it zap into order.
The whole point of Progressive Rendering is that you are able to start reading before the page is done loading, but how can I when everything shifts around?
I recommend up/side-grading to Opera 7.10 just for the Notes tab. It's amazing.
