Opera Rocks!

A newbie review.

I know that very few, especially American, surfers use Opera, but as a fairly new webmaster and SEOer I think Opera rocks!
What is the general consensus in Webmasterworld?

I believe the consensus is that Opera (6.05) is the best browser for Windows.

It late for *NIX and just plain laughable for Mac.

I will use Opera for Windows any time I browse competitor's sites.

Correction: Opera 6 stinks. Opera 7 is the one to use.

Opera 6 was really solid for many people, but there were limits in CSS support and DOM support that could be frustrating.

Opera 7 (especially beginning with 7.11) has greatly improved DOM, JS and CSS support and is full of great user features. Some people do report conflicts with other software, however. For instance, Brett (the owner of this board) finds a conflict with his Logitech mouse that makes Opera 7 frustrating.

On the other hand, I haven't found any conflicts, and I also a Logitech mouse. Opera 7.11 is my default browser and I find it extremely user friendly, with many, many unique features that make a devleoper's life easier and save me lots of time. It's paid for my investment many times over.

I like Opera 7.1, but it anoys me that you don't seem to be able to control the page borders with CSS.

What do you mean by 'page borders'?
What is it you are trying to do?

AFAIK You use CSS2 to control page borders in Opera 7.*

Opera 7.11 is my default browser. I especially love the keyboard navigation (Shift-arrow), which makes the mouse almost unnecessary.

Minor complaints:
* no Google toolbar
* it crashes pretty often. Don't know why. However, this shows another nice feature: the startup option 'proceed where you were when I crashed', which simply re-opens all your tabs.
* some sites won't let you in. Not Opera's fault, but annoying.

Some people -- Brett for example -- have reported 6 as rock steady, while 7 is near to unusable.

I regularly use both with no problems with either.

But I'd guess there's something missing in Opera's set-up or error-recovery code that causes problems in configurations.

But, either way, which ever version works for you, Opera is a terrific browser and well worth trying out.

Check out mozilla, I find it's better at rendering content while providing the same set of features and even more - live http headers, anyone?

My very favorite feature is Ctrl + Alt + V ---- automatic validator service for whatever page you're on from the W3C. But it is hard to pick one feature, because it has so many well thought out aspects and such ease of customization.

Opera 6, is brillant - which is the only browser on all the computers at work.

At home:

Win 2k machine - opera 6 & 7, mozilla, I.E. 6, netscape 4.78 & 7
Linux - opera 5 & mozilla

Out of all of them, i am most impressed with opera 6 which in its .x releases, has been a mainstay, and represents about 99% of my browsing.

Slowly i am moving over to opera 7, got some excellant tools, though until i can figure out how to strip down the over complex hotlist, i will be bouncing between 6 and 7 for a while to come.

There are two reasons why I stick to Opera 6.05 :

A)Opera 7.11 does not have the same performance. Page rendering is slower than Opera 6. Especially under a heavy load.

B)I am still trying to find someway to import my old SPAM or SORT filters into Opera 7 new mail client (M2). Anyone has a clue?

Opera 7.02 Bork edition is the best. Whenever you visit msn the page is translated into swedish chef language. Anything that mocks microsoft is a good thing.
