Hi everyone,

I am fairly new to website development, and I have a quick question about content on my website.
I have a website for my interior decorating company, and I sell a few home decor items through an online store on the same website.
I have about 500 cooking recipes laying around from when I was a head chef, I want to add these recipes to my interior decorating website as an extra source of generating traffic. My questions is, would adding this amount of content not related to interior decor effect my interior decorating traffic negatively?

Thank you in advance!

Welcome to WebmasterWorld Delamere!

If the cooking recipes are original content I doubt that they would negatively impact the pages about interior design. But at the same time, I doubt they would help much. If your focus is the visitor rather than the search engines, then the visitors for the cooking recipes are probably another demographic than those looking for interior designs. Best is if you try to connect these two worlds somehow. With your history as head chef, you should know how to design a kitchen, how to locate equipment, the optimal size of working places, etc. By adding that as a glue between the two types of content, you may add some benefit.

Thank you for the reply Lammert!
The recipes is original since I created them, but I understand that the demographic could be different. Combining the two is a great idea, I will see how I can incorporate it on the website.

Hello,

I think this is good idea, and will nicely enhance your site. However, it's hard to tell if it's going to bring you traffic, because, now Google is displaying receipt right into its SERP.

The main thing is quality content.
If it is well designed and original, then everything will work out.
Try creating a separate category on your site for this.

Should be no problem ... something as simple as:

"After you've put this new look in your home, you might want a new meal to go with it!"

It is easy to link just about anything to something else, but when it comes to original content just know that the scrapers will be there as well and it won't be but a blink in time before it has been duplicated or replicated all over the web... just sayin'!
