I've recently got back into the webmaster world again and I can only imagine how much has changed. The last time I was strongly into SEO and other sides of marketing was about 2011.

I was hoping someone would be kind enough to give me some pointers on where to start getting my new e-commerce site ranking well. I have covered a lot of the basics and after a week it is showing up in some target keywords but I am looking for growth in the quickest way possible. (Aren't we all)

Just a bit of background on the site itself.
It's a new domain (roughly 1 month old)
I own the .com and .co.uk domains but it is parked against the .com domain.
It is in the E-Cigarette industry
I have a Facebook page set up for the brand with good reach but low "like" base.

Any pointers or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong topic, if it needs to be moved or reposted please let me know.

Kind Regards,
Adam

Welcome back to WebmasterWorld and also web development/marketing in general. You are right, a lot has changed, and most of the changes have happened over the past couple of years. The basics still apply, but there is a lot more to take into account now, regardless or your target, or market.

One of the biggest changes has been social media, now it appears that everyone is using Facebook, Twitter etc. It's a growing trend and one that we simply can't ignore. You mentioned you are on FB so that's a start. Keep adding content to your page, try and be as active as possible and encourage likes. Having likes is one thing, but you need to focus on getting your audience to interact with your content. Post something compelling with a call to action. If people who like your page, like the post it will be visible to their friends "PersonA liked a post from You". and will show a snippet of your content. This may cause other to like the post and perhaps also like your page as a result.

Regarding the search engines, or should i say Google. A lot of what you already know applies, but lately, the key is to be subtle. Don't put so much emphasis on telling Google what your page is, be subtle and let it work it out. Back in the day, it was all about links, they are still a part of it, but natural linkage is Googles preferance, and that involves having a link-worthy website.

If you are looking to boost your results from the onset it may be worth running Adwords to generate your initial traffic. You could also pay Facebook for likes using their advertising system. You may be able to turn your customers into repeat customers, so running an initial Ad campaign to get you started may be a good idea. You will also be able to determine if your Facebook like count is rising and if you are able to convert them to users.

Hope you are able to pick up where you left off.

Mack.
