Number of pages to start and rank for on a website

hello all,

1) I have a website which consists of 6 pages (static pages and dreamweaver built) that ranks for a specific term (which Google shows 34,000,000 results for it).
- It ranks right after Wikipedia.
- The site is 8 years old.
- I receive around 200 visitors/day for this specific keyword and the site receives around 400-600 visitors/day.

My Conclusion: So you can rank well for a fairly competitive term with only a few pages and a few strong backlinks.

2) I also have a one page website which ranks for a common and controversial term of 14,000,000 results and outranks many popular sites and even news websites.
-This site has many many backlinks and keeps receiving backlinks almost everyday.
-The site has thousands of visitors/day.
-Surprisingly although the number of search results on Google is much less, competing for this keyword was much more difficult than the keyword listed above (#1).
-The site is about 4 years old.

Another Conclusion: So I realized you can even rank for a 1 page website.

3) Now my question is the following:

(a) how much does the number of pages count in terms of SEO and ranking.

A little more info: I purchased a very expensive domain in the hopes of ranking #1 among Google's 1,500,000 results. I purchased a few strong backlinks and am keep spending money on advertising and backlinks from News media (sites with high page ranks but different language, non-english)

I have become very impatient due to financial pressure and the very high risk I took (including opportunity cost).

The site is a simple directory and has very little content in terms of number of pages.

I do rank number 1 for the term: Keyword1Keyword2 but when you put a space in between (which is the proper way of searching anyway) (i.e. Keyword1 Keyword2) I fall back on page 4 and sometimes 5.

I purchased the domain Keyword1Keyword2.com.

The term Keyword1 Keyword2 (with a space) has an exact search of 30,000/month and CPC of $3-8 depending on location. Interestingly enough the term Keyword1Keyword2 without a space has a CPC of $9 dollars but with very little search volume.

(b) How much would you guess this domain is worth anyway? It's a common term, and adwords shows average CPC of $3 and 30,000 global search results. Any rough estimate? It's no guessing game, I'm just trying to find out if the name was worth it or not. (I know I'm starting to sound depressed ;) )

I sold all my Aapl shares to purchase this domain and seeing the stock price go up is just a bit stressful for me at this stage especially when Im still spending money on it purchasing backlinks and havent made much money off of it.

I'm kinda starting to question my sanity (thanks to my family) for my recent purchase and getting really stressed out.

Thanks in advance for your help.

1st a domain will not rank a website it is the work put into the site that will enable the site to rank. Six pages in html is really not worth anything the only worth you have is the domain.

I don't know when you bought it but domain cost have been steadily dropping as more extensions have increased the number of domains available for purchase.

I would put my money in content and stop spending on links. This will probably kill the site if your caught then you have a toxic domain and it is worth zit if the buyer does a good review of the domain.

How long has this site been up? Some things just take time, no matter how much money is thrown at it.

As for worth... a web site is worth what it earns, either in traffic, info shared/gained, or income.

At present it does not appear you have any stats to determine worth..., though there is that "other" valuation: What the buyer will pay for it... and you've done that so you have that particular answer.

1st a domain will not rank a website it is the work put into the site

I agree and am starting to realize that. I'm realizing that I spent too much and put too much focus on the domain name. I learned the hard way.

I do rank on the first page for Bing and Second on Yahoo though. While my other site (blog) with the same keyword and another TLD has over 100 pages and doesn't rank as high due to the low amount of backlinks i purchased.

Getting back to the .com version:

1) I rank #2-3 on Google for the keywords without a space.
CPC of $9 with search volume 70 searches/month

2) I'm on page 4 for the original keyword1 keyword2 (with the space in between), CPC $3 with 30,000 searches/month

I haven't yet embedded Google ads and am trying to increase the rank first.

How long has this site been up?

It's been up for almost a year. The domain was parked since 1995 and I purchased it over a year ago. I could have upgraded my car to a brand new Mercedes with that money. I still think the domain is worth more than I paid if I find the right customer in the same niche however, I prefer to work on the site until I receive several offers. And if the site generates money, I wont sell at all. (Kinda attached to the domain, best I own so far among 100-200 names)

I am trying to sell direct ads however, will need organic traffic before I draw in customers. I am sending around 500-1000 visitors/day through my other websites hoping I receive natural backlinks.
