When you compare results with Google i have to say, google is certainly on borrowed time now.
Google needs to update its results with fresh data or sink if you ask me. Search users want the most relevent latest results from all sites not just out of date ones which google is showing.
Pure, Pure Quality from MSN
Something MSN does that Google doesn't
This brings up something I was just thinking about -- that search engine results are going to vary from company to company not only because the algorithm is different but because the humans who design the algorithms are prioritizing different things when they design it. Another factor might be business decisions -- search companies might emphasize this kind of result over that kind of result becuase it either makes them better-able to advertise or because they become known for specific types of search results (like the one you mentioned).

I'll say ;) I mean, despite the fact that I really like the results, I will say that I have noticed some searches outside my kw range where sites in Google had the #1 position, seemingly by birthright, and are reduced in rank ot even absent in MSN. There is definitely something interesting about the absence of some of the pages that rank well in both G and Y.
I'm top 10 top 5 for hundreds of my phrases but that has done little for my traffic. I get 50x more from Yahoo...
I must say MSN does a very good job of niche searches, compared to Google. Google spits out wads of feces at the sight of a less than popular query. If it gets over 30K searches a month you may be OK with Google.
Also, I see a lot more sites that deserve to be in the SERPS but were removed/banned from Google for link buying. Google made a mistake to ban based off linking schemes I think.
search engine
on msn, google and yahoo. I'd say Yahoo seem to give the best results (a nice result listing, mainly of true search engines come up), followed closely by google and trailed pretty badly by msn which lists a lot of SEO sites but few real search engines in the first 50 results.
OK, so it's just one example but it seems that MSN may be giving top results to hard-line optimisers at the moment.
The question facility is good - but scarey. Not sure I want everyone going off to encarta for all their answers to life, the universe and everything.
Still laughing about it and it's been hours and hours now.
Try a search for a movie called "Ocean Tribe" on Google and MSN and you will know what I mean. Though I don't love Google as I used to, I have to admit that they do a better job at finding relevent results. I believe thats purely because they have more number of pages indexed.
I have seen MSN crawl 100% of all my sites, but yet they display only 5% of the pages from all the sites. Same goes for 99.99% of the other sites. Check out your site using site:domain.com command in both Google and MSN and you will know what I mean. Alternatively, try it for your competitor websites too.
I read MSN plans to have a 4 months long aggressive marketing campaign. They could fail to retain the surfers if they really don't think quick about their smaller index. OR perhaps they have plans to roll out 500 million new pages per week for the next four months.
Google may have an additional 3 Billion pages but that seems to be a hinderance.
a site: search for a site I am working on shows 166 pages in Google and 43 in MSN. Problem: There are only 43 pages, MSN gets 100% and Google lists robots.txt banned php outbound links (nothing dodgy about them) as pages.
How many of the 8,000,000,000 pages that Google indexes are actually useful? Would we miss half of them? It's only recently than anyone got past 4 billion so MSN starting at 5 billion doesn't seem too bad.
