7 - 8 - 9

Well much to my surprise, IE7 is still very popular and not at all friendly to HTML5.

So we need to retrofit and code for browser versions again.

Didn't we look forward to the day when we didn't have to do all these differences based on browsers?

And of course the mobile devices won't render consistently either, so we have to chunk code for mobile devices.

Welcome back to 1995 people!

Anyway, enough whining.

I remember seeing a way to run IE 7 and 8 (and now 9) on the same computer, but I can't find the site.

Can someone point me in that direction again?

THANKS! (and time to listen to Prince CD)

On Ubuntu Linux when trying to install IEs 4 Linux I had an Wine error 'wine does not have wineprefixcreate installed'. A search lead me to the Wine forum and there I found that IEs 4 Linux isn't supported to run under Wine.

In the Wine forum [forum.winehq.org] I was directed to Wine Tricks [wiki.winehq.org ] and was able to install a 'limited' copy of Internet Explorer 6.x. By 'limited' it means no java-script support and 'Internet Options' isn't directly configurable. The Wine Registry editor is similar to Windows.

edit 9:45pm est
Wine Tricks also supports installing Internet Explorer 7.x as well.

I use IETester from my-debugbar.com

Free to use, allows you to check the rendering and javascript engines of IE10 preview, IE9, IE8, IE7 IE 6 and IE5.5 on Windows 7, Vista and XP.
