I downloaded and installed it.

I did not get it from the 'beauty of the web' site as I did not trust such a stupid name was actually microsoft, I went to microsoft downloads instead.

Upon installing this IE9, it disabled all my background programs including MS Security Essentials which was bizarre.

To me, not much is different other than a user interface change which is less cluttered.

this is not bizarre, it was replacing lots and lots of system DLL files, most AV would have put a stop on this action.... not to mention trustedinstaller needed to be put in park as well.

To everyone claiming that Chrome should be labeled spyware or that "big brother" is watching you... do any of you have a single bit of proof that this is the case? Chrome is built from the open source Chromium project, so can any of you point at a specific piece of the code and say "See, right here is where it's spying on you"? If not, then you're just spreading rumors with no basis in fact.

Chrome ~ I switched to FireFox which is based and still is open source. No need for big bro to see which color hat I use ;)

yes, yes I have lots of proof actually, fire up a packet sniffer and watch all the data chrome sends back to goog. You'll see for yourself.

I was quite amused when I went to the MS Downloads website and received a 403 when I selected IE9 from their big banner. Not a good sign...

Downloaded, liked at first but had to uninstall it.

It would not let me enter passwords on certain sites I visited even after adding them to the trusted site list.

I don't like the favorites on the right side, and don't notice any improvement in performance.

I won't be installing it again.

IE on the other hand.. IS a horrendous pile of faeces.. always has been, always will be, and any Microsoft back slapping, iPhone toting, Steve, Steve and Mark - yes sir, no sir, three bags full sir kiddie fresh out of college knows it... even if they won't admit it.

I downloaded IE9, and went to beauty of the web, and was told i need to have the beta version.. :/
So far its ok, opening up seems sluggish but after that it zips along..
taking up less memory then google for me..
although i get 100/100 for chrome on the acid test 3, but only 95/100 for ie9

I was using the Beta on another machine but downloaded IE 9 onto the main laptop and am so far pleased. Less clutter and seems faster. All good.

Ps. I currently have zero interest in Chrome, Firefox and any of the others.

Actually not bad although I still don’t like the trend toward UI minimization
Kinda makes sense for stupid widescreen laptop monitors

A few CSS improvements… does rounded corners now but still not text filters like drop shadows

It now supports alpha transparency CSS via rgba( ), BUT it still applies the old proprietary IE DX filters (so adds them) !
I had CSS code that worked in both IE 8 and below, and standards compliant browsers, and it’s porked in IE9 because the transparency is applied twice
Had to add conditional comments to restrict the filters to just IE8 and below, you might want to check if you have anything similar

Oh, and color management. Oh dear. What a joke. Took me a while to work out what was going on, all the “tests” look right but my sRGB images are still wrong on my wide gamut monitor.
So it “converts” images that aren’t sRGB, to sRGB, but then totally fails to actually apply the monitor profile. So if you had an image in Adobe RGB, it wouldn’t be quite as bad as unmanaged, but you just end up with the way sRGB looked before. Waste of time. Idiots!

even just having goog suggest turned on while making perfectly normal searches can tag some werido stuff to your IP....which again, gets saved, forever.

I know it's considered hip to be cool and cynical - and I've posted a lot of negative comments myself about IE browsers over the years - but I'm not cynical. I think Microsoft really rolled up their sleeves this time and took some giant strides.

The new IE9 is fast, it is far more standards-compliant and the interface puts emphasis on the websites content instead of calling attention to itself. I might quibble with some details a bit later.

After all the hype about how much faster IE9 was supposed to be it still came in third in my benchmarking. Chrome and Opera 11 were faster than IE9, and more standards compliant. Another big yawn from me to Microsoft.

I will say though that it's a lot better than previous versions of IE.

I'll stick my neck out there and say IE9's good. It's certainly more snappy than IE8 in loading and rendering pages. The interface is MUCH cleaner; I put it on my desktop and have used it for a day and when I went to my notebook right away IE8 looked dated in comparison (not that it wasn't already long in the tooth, but even more so now). So far I'm actually happy with it - only long term use will know for sure. The only thing that bugs me in a usability standpoint is the location of the favorites button.

speed is about what im used to in opera, but as we all know opera still does some goofy stuff, even though its not the browers fault. so im getting the same speed without the werid things i sometimes see.

I enabled the status bar....but it really doesn't show you the "status" where did the green progress bar go?

getting used to the address / search bar now that i understand how it works.

right clicking on a new tab you used to be able to start inprivate mode, now you've got to go about it a different way.

hmm I like it but im still going to keep opera installed because i really dig the unite feature! but IE9 is going to be my front and center browser so i can give it a fair shake. Ive never been an IE hater and i've used IE/FF/OP

heck I did the same thing with bing and now im a full time bing user!
