Microsoft has said it'll increase the revenue share up to 95% for consumer applications, excluding games, for purchases of the app, or in-app purchases via the Microsoft Store. When Microsoft delivers a customer the revenue share will be 85%.
The new rates will follow a new App Developer Agreement later this year.
The new fee structure is applicable to purchases made on Windows 10 PCs, Windows Mixed Reality, Windows Phone and Surface Hub devices and excludes purchases on Xbox consoles.

Hear that Apple & Android?

Apple and Google do not need this, to attract developers.

I think the app store model is pretty screwed right now. Most "good" apps require you to buy a subscription for annual services/updates on mobile.. Ondesktop/windows I see this as a massive boon for Gamers... 5% distribution/purchase overhead on 50-100GB games. Yeah, why the hell would you NOT do that? same with desktop bridge apps.

i don't see it having much pull for apps for app sake but i could see it being what is needed for gaming/desktop bridge (jailed store apps).

Android gives the developer a fairly good deal last time I checked, but Apple is the worst. They should both follow M$ and give developers better deals.

If Android and Apple do, will it attract more developers? No. developers are already there. Today, if you develop an app , it's nearly mandatory to release it on Android platforms, because most of mobile devices are running under android OS. Then, you complete by release it for iOS, because iPhones.

Sure it will attract more developers. If there's more money, there will always be more to take it.

But that wasn't the point. Apple should pay more to those that innovate and further the value of their product. However that has never been their policy.

Its proof that the market is not competitive: Apple and Google are clearly anything but price takers...

MSFT should just give up even trying to chase the closed app store thing and go all-in on PWA's
