In one of Microsoft's usual confusing messages (it knows, but makes it particularly obtuse), it seems it's to cut some of the services a standalone Office user may use, such as Skype and OneDrive, unless you choose subscribe to Office 365. It's not happening until 2020, but I can imagine it being a frustrating move. Clearly, Microsoft sees its move the subscription models the way forward for any Office user, if it can get people to switch over.
