Microsoft has made agreements with 74- hardware makers to pre-install Microsoft software, such as Skype, Outlook, Office, etc., on Android devices.

Clearly, Microsoft has demonstrated to these "partners" that there's money to be had.

Whilst I use some of that software, I am concerned about software bloat, and, importantly, the the way that some of the bundled software cannot easily be uninstalled, hogging resources. These are usually the phone-makers software, and some of google's apps.

By pre-installing Microsoft software and services on Android tablets and phones, our partners are able to increase the value of those devices by delivering the rich productivity experiences customers want. In addition, partners will be able to take advantage of opportunities to realize new revenue streams. Android is on most devices out there, and it's maturing fast. Microsoft is finally realizing that their own platform isn't going to be the significant OS they thought it would. It's refreshing to see them offer their tools on other platforms for those who have bought into the ecosystem.

Not everyone can be using Nexus phones which don't have these things pre-installed. The next frontier for those of us interested in having more control over our own devices might be the upcoming Ubuntu for mobile.
