This is such an important case for many US-based businesses with data stored overseas. It may result in either your overseas-hosted data remaining private, or revealed to the US authorities.

With all these privacy and advocacy groups, tech companies, news and media businesses coming together to file "friend-of-the-court" briefs it seems strange that the case could go against Microsoft.

Today represents an important milestone in our litigation concerning the U.S. Government’s attempt to use a search warrant to compel Microsoft to obtain and turn over email of a customer stored in Ireland. That’s because 10 groups are filing their “friend of the court” briefs in New York today. I fear to think of the impact to businesses if it is decided that US courts can reach across borders with impunity.
