instead of going to several different websites to download and install Microsoft's web products, you can now seamlessly and quickly install them from one website - and you can update them from this website as well. This is the simplicity we have been aiming for - one website, one download, and simple updates to the best products for building web solutions.

There is a lot on that Microsoft Web Platform site. In typical Microsoft style they take several pages to explain why Microsoft Web Platform offers a complete ecosystem for building and hosting web sites, services, and applications. It took me a bit to wrap my head around.

I guess you can install this on your Microsoft server and get a bundle of tools and services folded in. I'd be interested to hear if anyone tries this out. I may have to setup a virtual server to see how this all works. (I don't think I'd risk this on my production server.)
