Microsoft reported a rise in quarterly profit on Thursday, boosted by strong sales of its Windows operating system, and the company raised its full-year profit outlook, sending its shares up 4 percent.The world's largest software maker said net profit in its fiscal second quarter rose to $4.7 billion, or 50 cents per diluted share, from $2.6 billion, or 26 cents per diluted share, in the year-ago period. Revenue rose 30 percent to $16.37 billion.

a cash cow. and that is while still being a distant third on search and ads.
On the other hand Google is likely to report revenues of $3.44 billion in last qtr. So MSN is not as far behind Google as we like to assume.
