I am fed up with problems on MS-Outlook. Is there a way to export my emails from outlook to another email client?

My outlook pst file is 700MB! (about 3 years of emails)

I don't think it's a matter of exporting from Outlook, but more whether the new program you're using can import from Outlook. You can export your mail files in CSV format as well.

Yes I see your point.

Any recommendations for a mail client that:
- Can import mail from Outlook.
- Supports recipes e.g. put mail with this subject in this folder.
- Doesn't force settings on me like 'dissalow' .txt attachements.
- Can store a GB or more of email.

Have you looked at Thunderbird from Mozilla?

WOW!
Just installed and reviewing Thunderbird. It imported all my Outlook stuff very easily.

The only thing I don't like is my replies go to the bottom of the email. I want my reply at the top as that is where my customers will look for my reply. I have heard there is a big debate about top/bottom posting, I don't want to get into that debate. I just want my replies at the top.

Can anyone tell me how to change this in Thunderbird?

Tools > Account Settings > Composition & Addressing >

Check: Automatically quote the original message when replying

Then: start my reply above the quote

OK, this is going very well! I am mightily impressed with Thunderbird.

Can anyone tell me how to share my thunderbird email files with 3 networked computers?

With outlook I used to delete the pst file on one pc, then on opening outlook it would ask me to locate it, I would locate the pst file on the other pc, thus sharing.

Idealy I would like to share the filters and accounts too :)

My copy of Thunderbird has this:
Account Settings > Local Folders > Local directory:
Path C:\...\Thunderbird\...\Mail\Local Folders

Account Settings > account2 > Server Settings > Local directory:
Path C:\...\Thunderbird\...\Mail\servername

Would it work to enter these paths into a copy of thunderbird on another networked pc?

As far as I can tell MozBackup will let me create a copy of my Thunderbird email files etc. This would mean I have 2 copies of my emails. That would get confusing, I need to maintain one copy.

I want another copy of thunderbird to use the same copy as the one on my pc (like I described with Outlook).

Very interesting read. Does Thunderbird also import the contact list as well? And while I'm at it, what about the tasks and calendar?

My emails AND contact list was fully imported on first startup :)

I don't use tasks and calendar, but I read somewhere that thunderbird doesn't do that. As you know I'm no expert ;)

Yep, it worked :)

Account Settings > Local Folders > Local directory:
Path C:\...\Thunderbird\...\Mail\Local Folders

Enter the path into a copy of thunderbird on another networked pc. Now I can access the same email files (only one copy) on 2 computers.

I am rapidly becomming a Thunderbird convert. At this rate I'll be advising our 100+ clients/companies to change too.

The Sunbird Project [mozilla.org] is the up & coming calendar for Thunderbird.

Can anyone tell me how to export my mail-filters and email accounts from one copy of Thunderbird and import them into another?

Otherwise I'll just re-build them.
