Is there a way I can save different network settings on the same machine so that I dont have to change them everytime I log into a different network. My problem is that I use my laptop at home and at the university. But each time I go back home from the university I have to make the settings of my home network and the opposite when I go to university. So is there a way i can just save different settings instead of having to edit them everytime?

I assume you are using XP. If that is the case, just create another network connection.

Go to Start/
Go to Control Panel
Go to Network Connections
Click on New Connection Wizard

You can create as many network connections as you like. One for home, one for school, one for work, etc.

Yes, but you still have to mess around. Google for Net Switcher - dirt cheap, wonderful little utility.

Not sure what you mean by "mess around." I have set up my bosses XP laptop for office and home dialup. XP will even "sense" the connection type and switch automatically according to how you are plugged in the back (ie. phone line or nic card) I actually found it quite slick.

As for if you have 2 LAN connections, just activate one or the other.

You may be right about XP - have it on some laptops, I use 2K on mine - but I seem to remember having the same issues with XP.

I always seemed to be needing to reboot when changing default gateways, DNS setups and the like, and Net Switcher made all that go away.

mmmmmmm

I have XPs 2k servers and workstations, but your right, They are pretty static when it comes to LAN. Maybe I'll check out a development box to see if I need a reboot when switching connections. I know I don't for changing IPs.

I'll let ya know.
