Microsoft is no longer supporting Windows 8.1, with only security updates to come for the next five years, however, the free upgrade opportunity to Windows 10 closes off in the next 24-hours.

I suspect the vast majority of users sticking with Windows 8.1 have made a concious decision to do so.

You're not the only one on Win7, and if the stats are to be believed, it's quite a few people.

I know of several people sticking with it until they run into a problem. Most likely the hardware will fail first.

I agree there will be a high number of people still running Win 7. Still a not insignificant number of people and Organisations running XP.

Quite true some time back it was for some very large organisations and they had full support contracts with Microsoft - which was cheaper than retraining staff.

However I would have thought the staff had progressed beyond Win XP, and Win 7 by now at home.

There's also the hardware issues - how long will the original hardware remain reliable!

At a place where I do voluntary work - there are three original XP PC's humming along very nicely with office work and a spread sheet.

Absolutely pointless to upgrade. Hardware or Software.
