Has anyone tried it yet?

Given we are to understand this update is not optional [eventually] and I have put my update to it on the back burner - has anyone else tried it?

If so, how hard is it to turn off all the stuff you don't want? In my case I expect that would likely come to 100% of features as when I last looked down the list of new features, I couldn't see one which was remotely useful to me.

Installed the update. I use the Creator Studio on my Surface Pro in my music studio.

So far I've used a music notation program named StaffPad designed specifically for use with the Creator Studio. I have not used the 3D capabilities but may get to more when time allows. I leave my Surface settings alone and have not disabled anything.

My desktop is another matter. That's my web work machine so I've disabled all the animated stuff, ads, Cortana, reporting, etc... and like you IanCP, I have not installed the Creator update yet and may put it off if I can.

However, my understanding is the reason none of these updates are optional is they all containe some level of security updates as well as compatibility upgrades... compatibility with what's coming next :)

Has anyone else installed this update on a desktop/laptop? I'm still trying to work out what would be beneficial to me on my machine. I haven't read anywhere of one thing worthwhile to me, other folks might see a gazillion things.

I've done a client's machine. There's nothing useful (or required) for webmastering. The update further secures the node (as in cloudy) to the web in MS favor. Cortana continues (you CAN NOT DELETE OR REMOVE CORTANA, best you can do it make it silent).

You will have to update. Your machine will update whether you like it or not at some rapidly approaching date, unless you remove it from the internet. I do not know that date, just know it will be coming soon.

I installed the Creator update on my desktop a few days after posting above. While it took about 15 minutes, it was relatively uneventful. I only noticed a couple setting changes and a few apps.

I've now had a chance to get into more of what the Creator update brings.

Added a Calendar app I don't think I had before.

For the Paint app, color textures are pretty cool as is the 3D image creation using the Remix 3D app.

I'm not into broadcast gaming but there's a Mix app to interact with streams in real time. That sounds pretty exciting for gamers.

You can now reduce the blue light emitted from the monitor screen at night to get your brain ready before sleep. That seems pretty silly and I only did it once so far.

Like before, I turned of all the newly added notifications (Settings > Notifications.) Cortana notifications & sounds stayed off from previous tweaks.

For the moment mine can't but yes eventually... I fixed updates in the Registry.

I was kind of hoping it might prove useful - apparently not. Oh well. Why do they bother?

Yes I read that back in April. I gave up giving feedback in the Windows Insiders. If you are not an avid afficianado of the "Microsoft Way", you are ignored. Only devoted acolytes receive attention.

• Games - I don't do games
• I don't use Edge - IE, Firefox, Chrome, Opera are enough.
• Windows Store - I only use when some application is linked there, and it's free. Movie Maker is the only example I can think of from the Store.
• Digital Assistant - Again I don't use it, no need.
• Windows Defender Security Centre - might be an improvement. Might also be the same as already is, with a different presentation.
• Skype - Another I have never used, my phone calls Australia-wide cost me nothing. I have no one overseas to contact.

Obviously Creator would be attractive to some folks with wider interests, just not me. No attention has been given to video that I can discern. I still use the old Movie Maker [which you have to get as a bundle through a tortuous path], the Films and TV is still much the same under Windows 10 as before already.
