Run native Bash on Ubuntu on Windows: In this build, you can natively run Bash in Windows as announced last week at Build 2016. To do this, you first need to turn on Developer Mode via Settings > Update & security > For developers. Then search for “Windows Features” and choose “Turn Windows features on or off” and enable Windows Subsystem for Linux (Beta). To get Bash installed, open Command Prompt and type “bash”.

This is terrific news. There's plenty of reasons to become a Windows Insider now that this preview is released.
Does this spell the end for the Windows OS internals?
Are they going to migrate from their DOS heritage to Linux and finally get rid of that IIS abortion too?
I've always thought the best way to MS to move forward would be the same path Apple took and just put the Windows GUI on top of Linux and call it a day.

apple put the apple front end on top of NExT/ darwin / BSD ..they also didn't just call it a day that is one heavily modified OS.
Cygwin has been around since.. NT? If you haven't noticed each version of windows gets some 3rd party tool we all used to use baked into the core operating system... this is just another one of those moves... of course this is way much more then just Cygwin....... if you think they are going to ditch the OS internals you forgot the saying "embrace, extinguish"
