I haven't had these problems documented, thankfully, and I hope I don't get them.

According to many users, if you get the problems, uninstall the patch for the time being.

A number of readers have emailed in to say that Outlook, the company's desktop client, had crashed following Microsoft's monthly release of security patches on Tuesday.

Other users are experiencing a range of various issues, such as black screens and other errors.
"We are looking into reports from some customers who are experiencing difficulties with Outlook after installing Windows KB3097877. An immediate review is under way," said a spokesperson. Windows Update Patch Causing Outlook Crashes [zdnet.com]

I haven't had a problem at all [this time anyway] with recent updates, but then again I have never used Outlook since day one. I found this interesting though.
"Some users have reported that Outlook crashes only when web-formatted (HTML) emails are displayed"

I have never found the need for HTML email, I come from the school of thought that if you can't concisely tell me something in 25 words of less, preferably written on the back of a used envelope, then I'm not interested. My grown up kids still hate that military philosophy.

Anyway I expect M$ will remedy the problem expeditiously, although if you have ever exchanged ideas with Microsoft engineers you would quickly learn they live in an alternative universe to us lesser mortals.

hehehehe, that made me smile about the 25-words.

There must be a reason it's html e-mails - it struck me as odd, but will be very annoying for some.

Interesting- I had a similar issue this morning. Certain e-mails were causing Outlook to hang- all were replies to a message (or forwards/replies to any message containing that message) sent last Friday. Before this morning, I had no problems reading that message or any of the replies. But today, even if I tried to open one of the sent messages, Outlook crashed. other HTML messages were fine, and other messages sent by those people after that date were fine- it was just message threads related to that one message.

I rebooted my machine and everything has been fine since then. (Windows installed several updates during the reboot, so it looks like of those may have fixed the issue.)

This is why i keep auto2 updates turned off. A day without outlook could cost me serious $$

The desktop freaked me out this morning with a whole new time consuming update

Windows 10 Pro 1511, 10586

Wha? I hadn't authorised Preview on the desktop!

Anyway nothing broken, and I have absolutely no idea what all these "new exciting features" are. Had to dump Edge/reinstate IE 11 again though.

My business requires that i keep documents and communications with clients for 3 years. I tried external hardrives etc but they didn't protect against fire or procrastination. This online service backs up my computers in real time and stores everything offsite. I used to use thunderbird but when this backup service tried to put everything on a new computer they could not retrieve all of thunderbird emails. There is no problem with outlook emails.
