I noticed a new directory C:\$windows.~BT that contains the install files for Win10. I believe the fun starts at midnight this evening...
Anybody else already have install files downloaded to their computer...?

I did some checking and verified that directory is indeed Win10 install files....

On my Desktop that file was created 12th October, 2014 329 Kb - probably [without checking] going from Win 8 pro to 8.1 Pro
Nothing else, I'll check Windows Update later.

On the Windows 10 Laptop it's created 10th July, updated 16th July 3.55 GB

Properties: Boot, drivers, lang packs, NewOS, Sources, store...

Checked - all updates are Win 8.1 related.

After some research, it appears that the update IS placed in C:\$windows.~BT on any system that's going to be ready for the update after midnight tonight.

I might add that all the computers that I have pre-registered via the windows 10 icon in the taskbar already have their respective downloads completed and are ready.
This may or may not be a factor here...

I guess the big question is when this update will be triggered as I have those files/folders dated July 28 as well. However, it has been July 29 in my part of the globe before the OP posted. MS doesn't always go with Washington time. Time to take one last drive image backup...

Time to take one last drive image backup...

Even as we speak? But I'm firstly doing...

DISM to verify that Windows Component Store is intact.

There is no point backing up a corrupt system.

Finished - 87.9 GB on my removable Toshiba 1TB USB Hard Drive

This is one of the times I'm gland to be on the end of the time zone chain (California.) I get to read everyone's pain & gain well before it comes to me :)

Of course we have a year to pull the trigger, but I doubt many will wait much longer than a day or two unless there really is a problem. My only real concern is some of my software essential to running my biz. Even though the pre-check said all is good, I'm somehow not totally comfortable with that.

I guess the big question is when this update will be triggered as I have those files/folders dated July 28 as well.
It's my understanding that the files download to our machines, but *we* pull the trigger. Since your machine has the files, if you open the Win10 icon is there not an Install button?

Not only do I not have the above the Win10 icon has also disappeared from all my trays!

But I have downloaded the ISO file therefore if nothing happens shortly I'll be doing an install.

Have all those directories as well dated 7/29, but still no notification. Went ahead and download using the MS tool last night and updated the Win 7 laptop and everything went very smoothly I must say. I'll wait to pull the trigger on my main machine a bit longer just in case, but it's looking good so far.

I now have W10 installed on 20 seats, a select group of my users for "corporate" testing... very pre-rollout

So far everything has been somewhat smooth, with the exception of a single video driver issue and a small networking glitch that involved Server 2012. Other than those two issues, it's been very smooth sailing...

Its a "first"...
Anybody have any W10 "issues" so far? I'm curious...

I have noticed on my WORK machine (which is set to Reserve Win10) that the $Windows directory has updated a few times in the last 24 hours. I suspect that some changes for specifically configured hardware is behind this, as I have not yet been asked to pull the trigger.

I decided to go with the ISO last night on my youngest daughter's Win7 laptop. I was a bit surprised when it said it was checking for updates before it actually even started installation, but hey ho, they supposedly know what they're doing:-)

It seems to have been a very clean install, I went to the pub for a couple of hours, came back and all was done with no interference from myself.

I ran ccleaner to clear out any garbage and all my essential programmes seem to be working ok so will have a play in a couple of hours time.
