Will you be using Cortana on Windows 10 and talk to your PC?

An interesting review of Windows 10 Cortana. There have been Windows apps going back to Windows 95 for voice input. Although I trained it I never really used it much. That was just for dictation though. Now with Cortana as a virtual assistant, and everyone used to Siri and Google Now, will everyone be talking to their PCs?

Cortana on Windows 10 works a little bit like Siri or Google Now, though all three have their differences: You can use your voice or the keyboard to ask questions (“what’s the weather like in Sydney?”), set reminders, launch apps and even toggle Windows settings.

As you well know, to the chagrin of Microsoft engineers I can mostly kill any of their creations which don't suit my fancy - other folks may well adore them as advancements in human evolution - I simply don't.

I always run my own race.

I've killed all Microsoft Windows 10 Apps which are of "No practical use to me", Cortana is gone, the same for One Drive which Microsoft engineers confidently told me "I must learn to live and love". Where did we hear that before?

Folks could fairly ask me, well why bother with upgrading?

Because of valid security concerns, and a need to be ahead of the technology pack. My Desktop is a nothing more than a practical working tool for me, no different from other tools I employed before retirement.

It's not a life changing experience. I'm cheap, I'm mean, and when I spend $$$ I expect at least 1,000 $$$ back in return.

I see tape covering laptop cameras on more and more machines. Is tape over the mic next? This technology would be great if it wasn't being used to spy on us.

If it's anything like the voice capability on my vehicle, i'll get into all sorts of trouble. hehehe

I've used voice dictation for a number of years, and it's been pretty good, but it's just for dictation, not for controlling my computer. I can see where it might be useful on a small screen device where typing is awkward, but even there, i don't speak into my phone to search, I prefer to type.

Then again, the visually impaired just might find it the best thing since sliced bread. I suppose it depends on the level of integration with the OS and how far that extends into applications.

I have set up a few voice systems for friends who are going blind, or have become blind, and I can tell you, it's made a difference in the quality of their life.
