I'm actually looking forward to this experiment of upgrade in place on a working system.

I have, of course, created disk mirrors of everything (the 250gb flash boot drive), the 2T date, and 1T scratch.

The email was in response the reserve I did some weeks back, was very informative, nifty links to FAQs, etc. And came with with a reminider that since I had RESERVED they would not notify me of the download.... just dump it on my machine and let me know when it all arrived.

Also had a reminder that this was REALLY FREE, and that I could create my own restore media for the Win10 setup via USB or DVD... and I do suggest all do that.... that way when it borks out you can start from scratch with a CLEAN install.

The last part of the email specified that the Get Win10 compatibility app would run one more time before I get the goodies...... apparently they are still working with others re apps, vendors, and compatibility up to the last minute. Also indicated the install process would say which apps have to be removed FOR the install and will offer advice on how to reinstall afterwards.

Not fanbois on this, but it does look like they are racing with a vision to meet that date.... which they say may take well after the 29th to see the downloads done.

Fortunately, everyone has a YEAR grace to make the decision, even if you have not reserved a copy. MS really wants everyone to be on board.

Oh, one last thing: They promised that ONE DRIVE was optional. Your STUFF will not be written to their server in the sky, but made a sales pitch that if you did, all y our devices could see your STUFF.

This time (3x Workgroups, 95, 98, NT server, XP, Vista, WIn7) I'm not going to wait up to six years to upgrade. Disclaimer: don't OWN a Win8x, but I have cursed them. :)

Migration from XP-Win7 should be fairly straightforward. Thosee Win8 folks might stumble around a bit *unless they were from the old school in the first place.

I can't comment on the impact upon servers, but we both agree at desktop level there is going to be a hell of a lot of problems with much angst and screaming.

Alert readers know my Lenovo laptop has Win 10 etc. At work today? What if this happens to millions who don't understand PC's?

My screen instantly.changed to portrait mobile when my attention was elsewhere. It still thinks it's a mobile, but I changed it back to landscape. Turn your head on to your right shoulder and look at your screen - it thought it was a 15.6" mobile. It still does.

I dunno - I have other more important things to attend to at present. Unpredictable?
