Will your PC run Windows 10? Use the official compatibility checker to find out

The Get Windows 10 app lets you register for a free upgrade from Windows 7 or Windows 8.1. But it also keeps a list of potential upgrade issues you might need to deal with. Here's how to check your own compatibility report.

Folks with older machines that barely run Windows 7 might be in for a shock - from experience of family.

Here's another take on it where the upgrade icon appears on your Windows system tray [if updates are enabled] in the lower right corner, and you should see a new icon displaying the Windows logo. Hover over it, and the popup messages says: "Get Windows 10."

Personally, I can't see very much useful difference between Win 8.1 and Win 10. Definitely not the new browser Edge.

Even with all updates installed I still couldn't see that at all. However there was a new message today under Windows Update to "Reserve Windows 10".

Whether I actually update is another matter. If it doesn't mess stuff up I probably will. If I lose IE 11 for Edge? I certainly won't.

Today, OK the Laptop hasn't been on for several days, but we updated without drama to Build 10030.

We still have an official "Project Spartan" - which remembers absolutely nothing - all prior settings apparently gone. It resembles at this minute? An embryonic "Chrome" - several light years from my updated FF 38 and IE 11. Possibly still born.

Launch date is 29th July? Rots of Ruck with that. At least I haven't been nagged over One Drive.

Yes afficianados there may well be 1,001 improvements to your eyes with Apps galore, but none I have found to be improvements in my "day to day" work tools - that is what matters.

I have yet to test the defunct "file copy".
