Windows 10 bombshell: Microsoft to KILL OFF Patch Tuesday

Microsoft has shown off some of the new security mechanisms embedded in Windows 10, and revealed a change to its software updates.

Windows supremo Terry Myerson reckons the revised security patch rollout – effectively ditching the monthly Patch Tuesday – will shame Google.

Ah Mr. MS$ versus Mr. Google$, don't you just love it - the show rolls on.

One of the reasons my recent Lenovo laptop/notebook was so cheap is Lenovo paid nothing for the Windows 8.1 OS [now Windows 10] so long as Bing and IE 11 were embedded. Apparently this was to counter Google's increasing market share. I'm open to correction, but I'm unaware of a laptop/notebook with Android.

Interesting anyway.

On topic? At this moment Windows 10 Preview Build 10074 has having spasms over "Update/Install" for Windows Defender. Third attempt successful - I think/hope.

PS for Mods: "Email notification of new replies?" doesn't seem to work with the new forum.

The new security fixes might be a bit more problematic in that the updates will be surreptitious rather than cyclic/notified. And the change to Windows Update (this is a guess, but is something that I would do) makes dang sure the client DOES update by taking away their option to NOT do it. :)

Calling home everyday? Anybody?

Sounds like Microsoft is planning to do this for consumer packages, but enterprises and business could still opt for the monthly scheduled updates.
