Will a MSOffice reinstall delete all of my accounts and saved e-mails?

MSWord crashing... need to reinstall entire suite.

I really need help on this one. Word won't work and I need to go for a fresh install.

It never loads past the MSWord logo screen popping up.

My concern is that a complete reinstall of MSOffice Professional 2000 will wipe out all of my email account settings, the archives of emails I have saved, etc.

If I do a complete uninstall/reinstall - will these files be preserved?

If you fully uninstall then reinstall, then yes, your stuff will be deleted.

In order to backup your Outlook data files, go to this directory on your computer:
C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_PROFILE_NAME_HERE\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

(Replace YOUR_PROFILE_NAME_HERE with whatever your profile name is)

You will see archive.pst and outlook.pst. Archive.pst is your Archived Folders contents, and the Outlook.pst is the main file that has all your stuff. (Outlook.pst is the most important). These are your main storage files, and you'll want to save them (you can just drag them to your desktop if you want).

After you reinstall, you can import those files back into Outlook (File --> Import...). This will re-establish your emails and directories.

As far as account settings, I'm not 100% sure if you can back them up or not. Someone else might know that.

Also, if you have any mail rules, they might not get backed up (not 100% sure).

I'm thinking of saying "Eff It" and just using OpenOffice's Word Processor.

Not looking good for MS. IE replaced by Firefox and now Word being replaced by OO. Reason: Instability (of course).

Office2K has a repair option that might be worth exploring before a reinstall. I've never lost data using the repair but I don't use Outlook.

Excel, Word, and Access are very stable for me under Win2K but I've kept up with the Office Updates.

Repair didn't work. I even went to the extent of uninstalling Word itself from the Suite, then reinstalling it and that didn't work either.

Ther error report mentions a file called, "C:\DOCUME~1\MY_NAME~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER4BE.tmp.dir00\appcompat.txt" - but all it seems to be is a log from the error report from when it first crashed.

Thinking it had to do with the error reporting system, I disabled it and that didn't do a thing either. (Not to mention that the error reporting STILL pops up - and it's deactivated with no presence in the services list.) F'ing infurating.

After spending an accumulative 3 1/2 hours updating/patching/uninstalling/reinstalling and searching the MS knowledge base... I found my answer in a simple, but excellent web page.

The fix was too simple: Erase my normal.dot file.
