Microsoft said on Wednesday it is releasing an updated test version of Windows Vista, the forthcoming update to Microsoft's flagship operating system.

looking forward to vista myself. Especially if they include MCE in the standard version like that have promised.
When I do get it (I know I'll be forced to someday...) I'll just change everything back to 'classic mode'. I hate all the extra features that end up straining my eyes and making everything look weird...
Wondering if this will 'feature creep' its way in, or if microsoft is to ship vista and then go "oh by the way, there is a search feature that replaces the Google Desktop and is better then the Goog web search...oh and u can't remove it or the HD will reformat and put your name at the top of the list for tax audits, otherwise...Congratuations on your purchase, enjoy the Vista Experience"

You know, I'm in the same boat. People wonder how I get so much performance out of a pre-XP machine, because they see the "classic" theme, and just assume I'm running '98 or '95.
And as for MCE: Piffle. My base XP does WAY more than an MCE computer (I've played around a fair bit on some MCE's), with the apps & extra hardware I've installed. (and most of the apps are open source) And my machine has a big advantage over an MCE - It ain't DRMed up the wazoo.
I'm dreading Vista. It'll have the tightest DRM yet, and will mostly serve to take more control away from my computer and put it in the hands of Redmond.
Thank the lord out of the 4 machines I'm running, only one of them has Windows anymore. It will probably be the last MS box I ever run.
The DRM in the new vista is so F***ing tight it is retarded. I wonder who's intrest they are protecting.
Those of you in the USA who get Vista might as well set up a bedroom for the RIAA in your house so they have somewhere to stay while they rifle through all your stuff, 'just in case' you have something you shouldn't. I want to scream right now thinking about it.
I will not upgrade, I will scream 'RETARD' at anyone who does, I have 1 XP box and I will keep it but that is as far as my MSOS will ever go. Why does Microsoft feel the need to protect the RIAA? WHY OH GOD WHY! Why do they need to pick a side? I know they want to protect their software content but come on! What are they, the intellectual property police?

The CTP beta is the first feature-complete version of Windows Vista to be released for testing. This is a big step in the release process. I'm looking forward to trying it out. The older betas are really pretty close to XP in comparison.
Windows Vista will be a lot more secure out of the box than another previous version of Windows. The User Account Protection (UAP) which is turned on in this build is designed to let you work with lower permissions and only access Admin privileges when necessary.
They are supposed to be turning on more of the Aero graphics in this release. From what I've seen in the previews this will be a very nice looking OS.
