eventid 51 Disk error during paging

I was wondering if anyone had experience with event 1d 51, error during a paging operation, in XP (or any other flavor of windoze).

I'm working with aa machine that has a lot of id 51 errors labeled as warnings. I've seen claims that it indicates an impending hard drive failure and other claims that it does not.

I've also seen info that it is related to write caching so I did go into the device manager and turned of write caching for that drive. I'll see what that does.

Anyway, any opinions on this? Is it serious or is it just an annoyance...?

If you're checking an eventid, I would use eventid.net [eventid.net].

From the info their it appears that the error could just as likely be entirely benign as to be a symptom of hardware problems. Job number one is to verify that your backups are up to date and working correctly. You do have backups don't you? ;)

Once you're confident you have backups I would work through any of the suggestions that seem to fit your situation.
