Hi. I run WinXP Home, and whenever I go to the shutdown menu, there is a small colored shield next to the shut down button. It says something to the effect of:
Click "Turn Off" to install important updates and turn off your computer. If you do not wish to install these updates, click here.
Is this a trick/spyware, or is it a genuine Microsoft feature?

I can't tell for certain, but some people have mentioned this when they haven't successfully downloaded updates properly from Microsoft Update. Have you recently updated? Go to Windows Update and check whether anything still needs to be installed.

This is standard yes, this will simply install updates when you shut down.

Hello friend, It is for sure that your windows needs some updates. Once you update your system it will not be there. So my suggestion is that do it now. Precious_Pearls
