Hello:

We have a Windows 2003 server with XP and Win98 workstations on our LAN.
For some reason in the middle of the day, Win98 users got kicked out of the LAN and are not able to login to the server. DHCP works and they are able to connect to WAN. After a few hours of frustration, I set a static IP address on a w/s and lo and behold, I can now login and connect to the LAN! I don't understand why this will happen...any thoughts and a solution?

have you checked the event logs for any warnings/errors - or is a machine taking over as the master browser for that domain..

Sorry about the delay.

No, there is only that one Server 2003 in the area. No event log entry found that is abnormal or with warnings/errors.

Amonst the latest MS holes /exploits ( check their own security pages for an area marked other "users also downloaded" ..no I kid you not! ) there is one that is supposed to just affect "domain users on 2K" ...possibly it's effects are wider than they MS allowed for .., .

I found a workaround. Even though we do not have a WINS/NBNS running, I added option 044 in the DHCP Server scope and configured it to the server address and it is fne now. Very strange!
