I bet the fellow that wrote this hack didn't sleep more than 20 hours in that week, and never went out once!

It turns out that this wasn't a Vista virus after all. This was a Monad virus. Monad was released in beta in June as part of the WinFX software development kit, but not as a part of Vista. There are no plans to include the Monad shell in Vista it seems, so the honors for the first Vista virus have yet to be claimed.

True enough, it appears to be an official announcement that Monad will not appear in futures releases of Vista. There was some earlier debate/speculation on that point. However, there are still plans to include it in Longhorn Server, scheduled for 2007 release.
